"Masked: Being a Woman on the Autism Spectrum"

       A Graphic Novel Research Project 2021- 2024

Participant Information Sheet

Who is doing the research?

My name is Aimee Shepherd, and I'm a PhD student at Leeds Beckett University.

I was diagnosed with Autism in 2019, and since then I've wanted to create more awareness of Autism in women. After crying over a pile of clinically written booklets, I decided I would research ways in which to provide information in a more accessible way, that doesn't just inform, and educate, but entertains.

Enter comics!

In this exhibition are potential styles of comic strips that I have created myself. And with feedback from my research, I shall develop a final comic book.

What is the "Masked" project?

...Is a PhD project aiming to create a comic book/graphic novel about Autism in Women and to encourage information about Autism being accessible for everyone. Despite the comic book being about autistic women, anyone can take part in the study to help provide feedback on the comics design. Once the comic is complete I will provide an update.

What will happen with my personal information?
